Foundry Technology - CIME Pressure Pour Furnaces

Industrial Revolution is the Canadian and United States distributor for CIME Crescenzi Induction Melting of Torino Italy. CIME specializes in coreless automatic press pouring (CAP) furnaces.

These furnaces are manufactured for capacities ranging from 200 kgs to 60 tons. There are currently more than 700 CIME-Crescenzi furnaces (more than 100 of which are 30 tons capacity or greater) installed in countries all over the world.

Unique among coreless furnaces, the CAP furnace automatically press-pours in conjunction with any automatic molding line.

The CIME – CAP (Coreless Automatic Pressure Pour) furnace is equipped with a patented elliptical melting coil and an Ultra High Efficiency design. These features allow the furnace to be de-energized and restarted from a cold charge if necessary.

No other autopour presently on the market has this capability. The elliptical coil design (Fig. C) encompasses the entire charge duct and the discharge duct within the heating zone, therefore a uniform temperature is guaranteed inside the ducts as well as in the crucible itself.

Unlike traditional pressure pouring furnaces (fig. A and D) and CAP (fig. B,C and E) ducts are heated by induction; they do not freeze or get dirty with slag. In fact, due to quick super heating capability, the slag remains fluid and easy to remove from the top surface. Since the CAP unit does not require the use of a heel, quick grade changes or additions are easily accomplished. Also, if required, the possibility of a shut down over long periods or the entire weekend can be achieved.

The controls and electrical functions of the CAP units are completely computerized. Exact pouring curves, quantity of metal poured per mold, remaining metal in the furnace and other diagnostic functions can all be pre-programmed for complete automatic control of the furnace. Also, inoculation systems and temperature controls can be interconnected to the computer to automate these functions. CAP units are available in the following sizes: 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20 tons and with power ratings form 50 up to 1000 kw.

Some other outstanding features of the CAP units are as follows:

•It is possible to discharge up to 95% of the metal in the furnace by pressure.

•Quick super heating cycles 212 degr. F./Hr (100°C/Hr).

•Controls temperature differential between metal in the mould to metal in the furnace to max. of 50 deg. F.

•Long lining life of 6 to 12 months.

•Available with exclusive Patented camera control system (OPTICAL) consisting of an electro-optical device which focuses on the mould pouring cup and the molten metal provides a continuous signal to the stopper - rod electronic control which adjusts in real time to the different mould filling parameters instantaneously.

The CAP units and CIME Primary Melters are equipped with PLC electronic control cabinets with the following components:

• Sets of digital instruments.

• Color Display monitor showing control parameters.

• Automatic power factor, phase balancing and capacitor switching controls.

• Power distributors.

• Automatic pre-setting of batches, weekend energy cycling, lining sintering, pouring temperature parameters, and super heating controls.

• Capability of producing graphs for lining wear, printouts of production runs, and trouble shooting diagnostics.

• Systems can be integrated with central computer if required.
